Lebanese citizens no longer need to walk into a store to get an Alfa line. As of October 28, 2026, they can buy a regular or vanity prepaid line, or a Mobile Broadband (MBB) line, through the Alfa app or website and activate it remotely as an eSIM. All they need is a valid Lebanese ID card or passport, and it works from inside Lebanon or anywhere abroad.
Alfa says the whole process is digital from start to finish and takes just minutes. The launch is part of the operator's four-year digital vision, which began with Alfa 5G and is being carried out in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Telecommunications (MoT).
From ID scan to live line in minutes
Everything starts with an identity check. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology reads the details on the customer's ID card or passport, and biometric facial recognition confirms the person matches the document. The customer then pays online, Alfa issues the eSIM, and the line is activated remotely on the spot.
To get going, users create an account on the Alfa app or website with an email address or any local or international phone number. One account can hold several eSIM lines, so customers can buy and manage more than one line in the same place.
Residents and expatriates on the same footing
"Following the launch of Alfa 5G services for the first time in Lebanon, we are taking another step forward in our digital transformation journey by enabling customers to reserve, purchase, and activate eSIM mobile lines remotely," said Rafic El Haddad, Chairman and CEO of Alfa. He noted that accepting the Lebanese ID card as proof of identity, alongside the Lebanese passport, is a feature offered exclusively by Alfa.
For El Haddad, the goal is fewer steps between customers and the network. "This initiative reflects our commitment to simplifying procedures and enhancing the customer experience, enabling Lebanese citizens, both residents and expatriates, to access telecommunications services quickly and conveniently from anywhere in Lebanon or around the world without the need to visit an Alfa Store or point of sale," he said.
Security checks at every stage
Alfa says the simplified purchase flow follows strict security standards, built to protect personal data while making the network easier to reach. The service went through extensive testing of the security and integrity of every stage of buying and activating an eSIM line, including checks that identity documents are authentic.
Foreign passport holders are next
Alfa plans to extend the service soon to holders of foreign passports, giving them the same way to buy and remotely activate a mobile line.
El Haddad ties the launch to the brand identity Alfa calls A Lebanese Connection. "For us, connectivity goes beyond technology. It is about strengthening our ties with the Lebanese, making it sustainable," he said. "Through this digital experience, we are bridging distances and making it easier for Lebanese citizens around the world to connect to the Alfa network and stay connected to Lebanon."
Getting a line from anywhere starts on the Alfa website.
