    FlyBeirut's 2027 Timeline

Middle East Airlines, Lebanon's flag carrier, has reiterated that its long-discussed low-cost subsidiary, FlyBeirut, will start flying in 2027, according to a report by Travel and Tour World. The disclosure confirms a project the airline has floated for several years, now with a firmer timeline attached.

FlyBeirut would operate as a budget arm sitting alongside MEA's main full-service brand. The carrier reportedly plans to focus on price-sensitive travelers between Lebanon, Europe, and other markets in the Middle East and North Africa.

Routes Across Europe and the MENA Region

The new airline's network is expected to target European and MENA destinations, the same markets where Lebanese diaspora and tourist demand are concentrated. Specific routes, fleet size, and base airport details were not disclosed in the latest update.

By splitting MEA's offering into a premium brand and a budget brand, the group could compete more directly with Gulf and European low-cost carriers that already serve Beirut. The model echoes what other regional flag carriers have done with subsidiaries such as flynas, flydubai, and Air Arabia.

A Lever for Lebanon's Hospitality Sector

The airline framed FlyBeirut as part of a wider effort to support Lebanon's airline and hospitality sectors, both of which have been hit since 2019 by the financial crisis, the pandemic, and the more recent conflict on the southern border. Cheaper seats into Beirut would, in principle, lift hotel occupancy, restaurant traffic, and inbound tourism spend.

Lebanon's hospitality industry has been waiting for a sustained recovery signal. A budget carrier able to fill aircraft on EU and MENA routes is one of the few aviation-side moves the country can make without major new airport infrastructure.

Open Questions on Fleet and Network

MEA has not yet published an aircraft order, fleet plan, or staffing structure for FlyBeirut. The 2027 start date is the firmest timeline the carrier has put on the project to date.
